DOG DAY DREAMS

He's a wild dog
in love with a stone
smooth cat.
​
She's tender
as bricks, open
as a wall.
​
She's so cool, even
free-falling leaves
freeze around her.
​
She pays polite hellos
(and rude cat calls)
no attention at all.
​
Still, the dog dreams
of an autumn breeze
ruffling her fur...
​
Moving her to soften and turn
to pour herself toward him
with a rumbling purr…
