Escape Artists
by Linda Eve Diamond

Muses of all stripes, colors
and feathers come together
through soulful music to play,
to listen, sing and harmonize,
to muse, amuse, and get away.
A lost soul, out wandering,
sings a soothing set of songs
hopeful odes carefully chosen
airy arias delicately woven
floating light, lyrical dreams.
While somewhere a caged bird
wings improvisational melodies
about the bars at closing time
and rat-a-tat scats on scatting
from jackknife-clawed cats.
Two songs, two languages,
an untranslatable contrapuntal
poem, a feathering of emotions
a tethering of floating notes
rising, reaching, touching.
Musical keys open magical doors
as cage bars soften into song bars,
as voices climb, crossing bridges
to a soothing, sacred sense of home
through transcendent, creative escapes.
